Triaging and processing disposition assets

How-ToIT Asset ManagementUpdated 17/04/2026
How to triage assets on a disposition order: condition grading, disposition route selection, data sanitisation, and value recovery.

Each disposition line item represents one asset being disposed. This article covers the triage and processing steps.

Status workflow

Each line moves through: Pending (asset added) > Triaged (condition graded, route decided) > Processing (wipe, destruction, or remarketing in progress) > Completed.

Triage

Use the Triage toolbar action to assess the asset.

Condition grading

  • Grade A: like new.
  • Grade B: good, minor cosmetic wear.
  • Grade C: fair, visible wear.
  • Grade D: poor, significant damage.
  • Non-functional: does not power on or has critical hardware failure.

Disposition routes

  • Remarket: sell for value recovery.
  • Refurbish: repair and then sell.
  • Recycle: materials recovery.
  • Destroy: physical destruction.
  • Donate: charity or education.
  • Return to Vendor: lease returns, warranty replacements.

Processing

Use the Process toolbar action. The fields depend on the route:

  • For remarket/refurbish: resale channel, listing price, actual resale value, remarketing status.
  • For recycle/destroy: destruction method, weight, materials.

Data sanitisation

The line item has summary fields for wipe method, software, result, and date. For multi-drive assets, individual wipe records provide per-drive detail. See Data sanitisation and wipe records.

Tips

  • Triage before processing. The condition grade determines the appropriate route.
  • Grade honestly. Over-grading wastes remarketing effort on unsaleable assets.
  • Always verify data sanitisation before any asset leaves your control.
